Also, you got to check out Death by Love! The book is absolutely raw! Take a look at the web site for Mark Driscoll's new book - Death by Love.
Real people. Real sin. Transformed lives. A compilation of heartfelt letters written from a pastor to his people that explains Jesus’ work on the cross. Death by Love is a unique book on the cross of Jesus Christ.
While many books debate the finer points of the doctrine of the atonement, what is often lost are the real-life implications of Jesus’ death on the cross for those who have sinned and have been sinned against. Written in the form of pastoral letters, Death by Love outlines the twelve primary effects of Jesus’ death on the cross and connects each to the life of a different individual.
Driscoll, one of America’s most influential pastors, and Breshears, a respected theologian, help readers understand, appreciate, and trust in Jesus’ work on the cross in a way that will transform their lives. Both deeply theological and intensely practical, this book shows how everyone can find hope through the death of Jesus Christ.
Check out this video intro to the book, it's pretty cool & very well done.
(I beleive Driscoll used the same artist who did Derek Webb's Ringing Bell artwork.)
His book looks really good. The goal is to show the power of the Gospel to tranform our wicked, sick, hurt and perverted lives into lives of truth & love. Check out the sermon preached a couple years ago with the same title...
Death by Love: Reflections on the Cross
Speaker: Mark Driscoll
Audio from Session 11 is our last session from the Reform & Resurge Conference May 2006. Listen to Mark Driscoll, pastor of Mars Hill Church, president of Acts 29 Network and founder of Resurgence, as he preaches on, "Death by Love: Reflections on the Cross." Revisiting who Jesus and the cross is, deserves more attention today than most people would like to think. Over time Christians arguably could begin losing sight of the cross, what it meant and what it means for us today. Mark Driscoll brings us back to the fundamental aspects of the cross and the practical implications of a proper view of the cross in this day. Some church movements today focus on the incarnation, leaving out the cross and the exaltation of Jesus Christ and therefore undermine the deity of Jesus Christ and the gospel. The correct view of the cross gives way to the correct view of the atonement and ultimately giving us the clear picture of the gospel that we are to preach today. Driscoll looks at penal substitution, propitiation and expiation. By gaining the fuller picture of the cross we may be faithful in building God's Kingdom with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
